If you find yourself in Selangor, Malaysia, a visit to Liu Gu Village Chicken is an absolute must for any chicken lover. Nestled in the charming Kg Desa Sg Makau, this cozy chicken restaurant is celebrated for its premium Free Roam Chicken (走地鸡), a dish that speaks volumes about authenticity and freshness.
The moment you step in, you’ll notice the warm, welcoming atmosphere—a small space that exudes homely charm with just about six tables, ensuring a personalized dining experience. It’s clear from the ambiance that the team here values intimacy over bulk, promoting a sense of community among its patrons. But be warned; as a popular spot, it can get quite busy, so reservations are highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
Let’s talk about the star of the show—the chicken. Liu Gu Village Chicken specializes in various chicken preparations that promise to tantalize your taste buds. The Steamed Chicken (白切鸡) stands out, showcasing the natural flavors of the free-range chicken, steamed to perfection, priced from RM70 to RM103 for a whole bird. The skin is tender and glistening, while the meat remains juicy and packed with flavor. Diners rave about the Stir Fried Sesame Ginger Chicken (麻油炒姜鸡), available for RM80 as a whole or RM45 for a half-chicken portion, where the marriage of ginger and sesame oil creates a comforting, aromatic experience that lingers on the palate.
Do not overlook the robust offerings on the menu like the Hakka Braised Pork (客家炸肉) for just RM35, which brings a delightful contrast to the chicken-centric dishes. Diners have described the pepper soup featuring pig stomach as “well worth it,” highlighting the depth of flavor crafted with care by the kitchen.
Customer feedback paints a vivid picture of culinary satisfaction. Chee Hwa Tang shared that pre-booking is essential, especially during weekends or holidays, which is a testament to the restaurant's popularity. Joyce Sivalingam noted that even during peak hours, the aroma of their dishes—a combination of traditional herbs and spices—was worth the wait. Junior Franco echoing that sentiment, awarded a solid 4.9/5 for the “authentic, homestyle cooking that nourishes both body and spirit.”
If you anticipate a culinary journey that embraces both flavor and nostalgia, make the trek to Liu Gu Village Chicken. It’s not just about a meal; it’s an experience enriched by the warmth of the staff, particularly the owner who is known for her genuine friendliness. This place is famous for their Free Roam Chicken (走地鸡). Note that you would need to book the Chicken beforehand, especially on the weekends and public holiday. A group of 6 people. We had - Steamed Chicken (白切鸡) (from RM70 - RM103, can only order whole Chicken), - Stir Fried Sesame Ginger Chicken (麻油炒姜鸡) (RM80 for whole chicken)(or RM45 for half chicken), - Hakka Braised Pork (客家炸肉) for RM35, - Steamed Tofu with Fried Garlic (蒜末猪油渣水豆腐) for RM9, and - Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leaves (番薯叶) for RM10 to RM15. We had it for a total of RM230, including tea and white rice, around RM38 per person. The highlights are the Steamed Chicken and the Ginger Chicken. The steamed chicken is very flavorful, slight tough meat as the chicken is free-roaming, while the skin is not fatty. The skin is crispy even when it is steamed!!! The ginger chicken is fantastic, nice sesame oil and ginger flavor, while having a fragrant rice wine in the sauce. Some customers even brought their own Whiskey to add into the dish. The Hakka Braised Pork is good, up to the Hakka standard I would say (from a non-Hakka person ^_^). The tofu is good as well, nothing to complain there. The vegetable is a bit light on flavor, comparatively to the other dishes, so it is slightly underwhelming. As it is a homemade local business, the speed can be a bit slow, so get ready to hangout with a good pot of Chinese tea. The atmosphere is comfortable.

First of all, thank you for letting us eat at your place even though we did not make a reservation. Auntie’s quick thinking helped me and a group of 10+ to eat the chikin here. Thank you so much Auntie. Now the food. Chikin and fish with the ginger is just fantastic. Lastly, the place is small, about 6 tables or so. Don’t make the same mistake as me and please make a reservation!.Parking is provided but very limited so if you can carpool, do so. For the people wondering if it’s worth it, yes it is! Especially if you are on the way to or from somewhere passing this place!

One of the best steam chicken u can get. Try their wine ginger chicken and a must to order their pig stomach pepper soup.... expensive but well worth it!!! Their fish also not bad. But since we have kids can only try steam. Everyone else order their spicy and sour deep fried version. This place must book. No walk in.

Here I come again today! Travel all the way 50mins from my place. A solid 4.9/5 for delivering exactly what it promises: authentic, homestyle cooking that nourishes both body and spirit. The Snakehead Fish Soup with Herbs is a bowl of wellness. The broth is the soul of this dish: deeply aromatic and complex! The Authentic Kampung Chicken is the star. This isn’t your average steamed chicken. The preparation is traditional, slightly salted, resulting in incredibly tender, flavourful meat with a clean, pure taste, sweetness of the chicken. Trust me, this is heartwarming food and this place absolutely a gem.

Kampong Chicken here is so tasty, worth the trip. The steamed chicken served was so fresh and appetizing. Was told the chicken was bred with care especially with their feed. But please book prior to your visit worth the effort with friendly owner. Full recommended. Price is very reasonable.

Food is really good though it’s a place where you would need to make a reservation or pre-order. We walked in at 1230 and even though it has less than 10 tables, they seemed swamped and we waited 20 mins or so to place our order. We chose not to wait for the signature steam chicken and settled for the ginger chicken, Tauhu and veg. I would come back again as the meal itself was delicious.
